How do I show Mic Drop in my Dock?

Mic Drop is a menu bar app, so it doesn’t appear in your Dock by default. If you’d like to use a Dock icon, you can enable it in Settings.

Turn on the Dock icon

  1. Click Mic Drop’s icon in your menu bar and choose Settings….
  2. In the General tab, turn on Show in Dock.

Mic Drop appears in your Dock straight away. To remove it, turn Show in Dock off again. Your menu bar icon stays put either way.

Mic Drop’s Dock icon shows your mute status at a glance:

Open Mic Drop from the Dock

Click Mic Drop’s Dock icon to open its menu, just like clicking its menu bar icon. That’s handy if macOS has hidden the menu bar icon because your menu bar is full. (Can’t find Mic Drop in your menu bar?)

If a Mic Drop window is already open, like Settings, clicking the Dock icon brings that window to the front instead.

What else changes

With its Dock icon turned on, Mic Drop behaves a bit more like a regular app:

  • It shows up in the app switcher when you press ⌘Tab.
  • It has its own menus at the top of your screen while it’s the active app, including Help > Mic Drop Help, which brings you back here.
  • You can quit it by right-clicking (or Control-clicking) its Dock icon and choosing Quit, as well as from its menu bar menu.
